Salisbury And Wilton Swifts (SAWS) are proud to present a fundraising concert with two popular local musicians – Bill Benham (violin) and Michael Maxwell Steer (piano). Bill has been a member of the Bath Festival and the London Symphony Orchestra as well as playing on a wide variety of film scores and recordings. In addition to composing, teaching and producing concerts, Michael Maxwell is director of Cherubim Music Trust – a charity that lends professional musical instruments to young musicians. Bill and Michael Maxwell have performed as a professional duo for the past 5 years in the South West and London.
The cost is £10 (cash and cheque only) and tickets will be available on the door which will open at 7 p.m. The programme will include works by Vivaldi, Schumann, Vaughan Williams and Schubert with some nature and bird related themes.
Thanks to the generosity of Bill, Michael Maxwell and Sarum College all proceeds of the concert will go towards SAWS and protecting Swifts.
Daniel Kronenberg of SAWS said “Due to lack of nesting spaces in our new buildings or blocking up nesting spaces during renovations of old buildings, the population of Swifts in the UK has declined by 50% in the past 20 years. SAWS is working together with local councils, businesses, schools, churches and residents to reverse this decline.”
Since 2018 SAWS has put up about 100 nest boxes for Swifts in and around Salisbury.
