Excellent results for Leehurst Swan

100% of pupils in Year 11 at Leehurst Swan School passed 5 or more GCSE subjects and 95% passed 5 or more GCSE results including English, Mathematics and Science. These are excellent results and represent the great progress made by the pupils whilst at the School – all are set to go on to their first choice of Sixth Form.
Our congratulations go to all the candidates and their teachers on this achievement. Leehurst Swan School recognises not only on the academic achievement of these pupils, but also their significant personal growth.

New head at Leehurst
Not all the new arrivals at Leehurst Swan were pupils this year. New Headmaster Mr Stuart Morgan-Nash (pictured left), formally Headmaster of St. Edward’s Prep School in Reading, succeeds Mr Roger Leake who retired at the end of the last academic year.  In Stuart, we have found an inspiring leader who brings enthusiasm, energy, vision and a commitment to a holistic approach to teaching and learning.  Mr Morgan-Nash will uphold and develop Leehurst Swan’s ethos and reputation for excellence, ensuring that all pupils and staff achieve their full potential. With a background in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths he is passionate about ensuring that every child will ‘find their voice’ at Leehurst Swan.
On his appointment, Stuart said:“Education for me is all about the individual. I aim to build on the family-centred ethos that defines the school and enhance the already brilliant, broad curriculum as well as provide more opportunity for representation in both music and sport. Schools should work in partnership with parents, and I will work to ensure that this relationship brings the best possible outcomes for the children in my care. The ‘through school’ nature of Leehurst Swan means that I will have the privilege and responsibility of nurturing children from starting school to leaving for further education – I am delighted to take part in this journey with them.”

Chafyn keeps an eye on the future

Chafyn Grove School is a 3-to-13-year-olds co-educational day and boarding school on the edge of Salisbury.
Benefitting from fine facilities with purpose-built teaching blocks, a newly refurbished reception, teaching block and updated boarding facilities, two AstroTurf and beautifully maintained pitches, it has recently received a glowing ‘excellent’ inspection report, summed up by the statement: “Chafyn Grove is highly successful in achieving its aim to inspire pupils with a love of learning and a zest for life.”

Sport, especially hockey, is a strength of the school, but Chafyn is also strong in the arts and successful in scholarships to senior schools at 13+ and entry to the local grammar schools at 11+. New and interesting ventures include business enterprise for Year 8 and a new course in leadership and teamwork and the ChafynChallenges.

It may have recently celebrated its centenary, but Chafyn is a school with its eye on the future.
Do come and see the team at the Open Days on Friday, October 5, and Saturday October 6, from 10am to 12.30pm.

Inspiring tomorrow’s scientists and the engineers of today

Salisbury’s University Technical College (UTC) has seen significant improvement in its GCSE results this year, and students have gone on to some exciting destinations, including university and apprenticeships with DSTL, the Royal Navy and more.

Employer-demand for science and engineering apprentices and graduates is expected to double during the coming years. Students from Salisbury’s UTC are equipped with the right skills, training and experience to take advantage of these exciting and challenging career opportunities.

The UTC is sponsored by a whole host of top employers as well as the University of Southampton.

Joe Mullligan, principal said: “I am firmly committed to the UTC model, and have seen first-hand how it can transform young people’s lives and open up opportunities they may never have considered.

“Why not visit the Salisbury campus on Wilton Road at its Open Evening on the October 3 from 6:30pm? “You will get the chance to meet the principal, see the state-of-the art facilities and talk with the UTC’s sponsors, including: QnetiQ, ChemRing, Stannah, DSTL, NHS, Royal Navy, British Army and more.”

Outstanding success for Rookwood pupils

Rookwood is a co-educational, day and boarding school, for ages two to 16, in the heart of Andover, Hampshire. Set in eight acres, the school has an impressive range of amenities including a state-of-the-art sports hall, outdoor swimming pool, excellent art and science facilities and a new music iMac suite. Additionally, there is an ISI rated ‘excellent’ boarding house, which offers full and flexi boarding for pupils from Year Three.

While Rookwood is non-selective, it still achieves excellent academic success; high-quality teaching coupled with motivated, positive pupils ensures pupils really do fulfil their potential. In 2018, 97% of students gained five or more GCSEs at grades 9-4 and an outstanding 100% of students achieved 9-4 in both Maths and English Language.

However, Rookwood is so much more than exam result: pupils have many opportunities to experience a broader education than is simply presented on the timetable. There are more than 100 weekly clubs and activities across the arts, sport and science as well as residential and overseas trips.    The school also runs a thriving Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards programme and were recently awarded the prestigious School Games Gold Mark in recognition of their sporting endeavours.

Rookwood’s school motto is ‘Sapere Audi’ which can be translated as ‘dare to know’, and is clearly seen in everything the pupils do. Pupils are challenged to have courage¸ to learn new things, develop new skills and deepen their understanding. As a result, students leave Rookwood as confident, resilient and principled young adults, ready for the next stage of their education.

‘Your child at our heart’

In our unique setting within Salisbury Cathedral’s ancient walls sits our remarkable, happy and thriving co-educational day and boarding school for children aged three to 13 years. We would like to invite you to visit our newly transformed pre-prep, see our recently renovated swimming pool and explore the beautiful 800 year old Bishops Palace that is the setting for our 21st century classrooms.

Our focus is on the pastoral care and guidance that we provide for all our boys and girls; it is a place where personality grows. In education, happiness and confidence is King! SCS children may find their unique sense of character through the music they sing, on the sports field, in their academic lives or one of the many opportunities available to them – probably in a number of different areas.

Pupils transfer, mainly at 13, to a diverse range of senior schools. Last academic year, 14 pupils in a cohort of 18 achieved Academic, All-Rounder, Music, Drama, DT and Sport scholarships to leading public schools, with 3 obtaining Specialist Music Awards at Wells Cathedral School, one of the leading music schools in the country. We look forward to offering a range of new scholarships in Music, Sports and Academics to September 2019 entrants.

Come and visit the school that has your child at our heart! We would be delighted to show you around at our next Open Morning on Saturday 22nd September from 10.30am. Please contact our Registrar, Phillipa Ennew, to book admissions@salisburycathedralschool.com
