Wilton Womblers had a very special visit from a proper Womble to help with its first spring “Womble”.
Uncle Bulgaria, supported by Wilton Town Council and Mayor Cllr Peter Edge, joined the town team for the spring clean-up, a national event.
The group was founded by Cllr Lee Glyde in September 2018 after concerns from local residents about the increasing litter and fly-tipping problems. It currently has more than 80 members linked to Greener Wilton.
Additional equpiment was provided for the litter pick.
The event was well-supported with 15 litter-pickers, including family groups and individuals, clearing residential areas and Kingsway slip road, collecting about 30kg of litter. A metal camping gas cylinder and two old fire extinguishers were sent for recycling. Fly tipped waste was also reported via Wiltshire Council’s MyWilts App.
Reeve the Baker and Coffee Darling provided light refeshments of cheese straws, brownies, hot chocolate and coffee at the meeting point, and it also encouraged passing families and children to pick up a piece of litter or two for a ‘lite bite’.
