North Dorset District Council’s Planning Committee has approved a plan for 42 new homes, including outline development of 17 homes next to the Bull Tavern, Sturminster Newton.
The approval sets out the access, layout and scale of the development and includes a minimum of four affordable homes. Another application will set out the design of the homes.
The development, by Hall & Woodhouse, will also include £500,000 investment in the brewer’s Bull Tavern.
Mark Woodhouse, Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse, said: “Permission to develop the field next to The Bull will help to ensure its future as a public house, one that is dear to me as I had my first illegal pint in it at the age of 14!”
A 25 home development by local developer Wyatt Homes, has also been approved at Huntley Down in Milborne St Andrew.
The development will provide 10 affordable homes, including two one-bedroom, five two-bedroom, and three three-bedroom homes. Of these 70% will be for affordable rent, with the remaining as intermediate housing (i.e. shared ownership).
