An Amesbury man has been ordered to pay £3,754 in fines and costs after being prosecuted by Wiltshire Council.

Steven Dickel, 35, formally of Antrobus Road, Amesbury, was found guilty at Salisbury Magistrates Court on October 7 of two offences under the Scrap Metal Dealer Act 2013.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and the council’s licensing system protects the public and ensures that licence-holders are considered ‘fit and proper’ to hold a licence and dealers and collectors undergo rigorous checks by the council and Wiltshire Police.

Residents should always check the credentials of those collecting their scrap metal and to be wary of adverts on social media offering scrap metal collection

The council advises people to report anyone who is believed to be an unlicensed scrap metal collector and to be extremely cautious of ‘cash for scrap’ operators within the  county. www.wiltshire.gov.uk/mywiltshire-online-reporting
