A man was arrested after a serious assault in Salisbury. Police were called to Catherine Street at about 8.40pm yesterday, May 20 by the ambulance service when treating a man in his 40s who had suffered multiple puncture wounds.

He was airlifted to Southampton Hospital in a serious condition. As of Tuesday, May 21, his condition was described as stable.

Officers were at the scene within four minutes and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is in police custody.

Det Sgt Kerry Lawes, from Salisbury CID, said: “At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this attack.

“The area was busy and we know people may have either witnessed the assault or who saw something in the aftermath which could assist with our enquiries.
