Police need help to identify two men they would like to speak to after a distraction theft in Salisbury and have released CCTV images.

A woman in her 50s was at Waitrose in Churchill Way West when a man started chatting to her, having dropped a store token on the floor, at about 6.30pm on March 15.

The woman picked it up for him but, meanwhile, a second man was removing a wallet, containing bank cards, from the woman’s bag in her shopping trolley. The men then left the store.

PCSO John Taylor said: “Fortunately, the woman realised quickly her wallet had been stolen and immediately cancelled her cards before they could be used.

“We urge peopel to be mindful of distraction thefts like this one when out and about shopping.– Always keep bags zipped up or fastened where possible, and keep purses at the bottom, or inside a separate secure compartment in your bag to help reduce the risk of falling victim to this type of crime.”
