Changing the use of The Snooty Fox, Brook Street, Warminster, from a public house to a dwelling has been criticised by Warminster Town Council’s Planning Advisory Committee.

Councillors are concerned that a community asset would be lost. Change of use of a public house to a residential dwelling has to be justified and is a complicated area of planning law.

Councillors wanted more clarity on whether a case had been made that the pub was no longer viable.

The council pointed out it was only a consultee with no power to reject the planning application. Councillors asked for the planning application be ‘called in’ by the Wiltshire councillor representing that part of Warminster, Councillor Tony Jackson, to be properly assessed by Wiltshire Council as the local planning authority.
