The new library and café design for 30-36 Fisherton Street, part of The Maltings Development, is supported by Salisbury City Council’s planning committee.
A statement from the council claims the design ‘will benefit local residents of all ages and the affordable hotel will encourage more visitors to visit Salisbury for more than just a few hours’. It adds: “Securing this investment in the city is beneficial to the city’s long-term viability, and crucially, our library service is recognised as a very important asset for the residents of Salisbury and to our neighbouring towns and villages.”
At the committee meeting on August 12, the City Council, the application was supported by a majority of the committee ‘as more in keeping, given the height and mass of the proposed development, which reflects a number of buildings within Fisherton Street’.
The committee noted some thought had been given to space between the neighbouring buildings including Salisbury United Reform Church.
