A thousand runners booked in for Southampton Airport’s annual Runway Run within two weeks of it being launched.
The airport’s charity partner, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, is accepting applications for a waiting list, with about 100 runners already in the queue.
Neil Garwood, Managing Director at Southampton Airport, said: “What a fantastic achievement to sell 1,000 tickets in record time. I have already started training to beat my personal best!”
Ray Southam, Partnerships Manager for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: “We are overwhelmed. There’s going to be a wonderful atmosphere on the morning.”
Registration on the day starts at 4:30am with a warm-up at 5:15am. The run begins at 5:30am and will finish by 6:30am for the runway to be cleared ready for commercial flights of the day to begin.
No aircrafts are involved in the charity incident.
