A 1962 Lancia Flaminia Zagato proved itself a real 60s hit at the Sherborne Historic Vehicle Rally on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
It won the Terry Dare Cup for classic 60s cars, the Westbury Garage Cup for the best overall car, and the Tim MacBean Cup for the most desired car. Not to be outdone by their own time machine, owner David Addey and his wife Vicki were also awarded the Pedley and White Trophy for the most appropriately-dressed occupants.
Top award of the event, The Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions Masterclass Trophy, was won by J Ryley with his 1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Park Ward Three Quarter Coupe.
The event raised £3,000 for charities nominated by the Rotary Clubs of Sherborne, with the Sherborne Town Band and the Sherborne Area Youth and Community Centre this year’s main beneficiaries. The award-winning band serenaded the crowd throughout the event held in the Courts of Sherborne Schools.
Before the 180 veteran, vintage, and classic cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles lined up to impress the crowds, introduced by compére Ken Horswell of Abbey FM, the 53 vehicles took part in a 40-mile road run, taking in Henstridge Airfield for a photoshoot with the resident Tiger Moths.
“There was a wide cross section of vehicles, representing more than a century of motoring history,” said Brian Chant, chairman of the organising committee. “This year we were blessed with fine weather in stark contrast to last year.”
