‘Outstanding’ GCSE results were achieved by St Mary’s Shaftesbury pupils who improve on last year’s outstanding GCSE grades.
They were some of the best results the school has seen in nine year, Mrs Maria Young, Headmistress said .
Almost a third of the grades were 8/9 (A*), more than half Grade 9-7 (A*-A), three quarters 9-6 (A*-B), and four girls gained straight 9/8/7 (A*/A) grades.
Girls achieved 100% A* in French and Spanish, after 100% A* in French A Level last week – bucking the national statistics for a decline in uptake and standards for French. Physics, Chemistry, Drama, Art and Photography also gained a clean sweep of top grades.
“These GCSE results come on the back of the School’s best A Level grades in four years, with all 14% of girls who received offers from Oxford and Cambridge, gaining their places and exceeding their grade requirements. “This has been an excellent set of GCSE and A Level grades, the best for some years, and we are extremely proud of the girls and staff for all their hard work. What we do particularly well at St Mary’s is to help pupils exceed their academic expectations, as demonstrated by these fantastic results, the head added.
