The first revival of The Night Watch, from the international number one best-selling author Sara Waters, comes to Salisbury Playhouse.

The Original Theatre Company and York Theatre Royal present Hattie Naylor’s adapted version, first performed in 2016 at Manchester’s Royal Exchange, between Monday, November 11 and Saturday, November 16.

Set in London in the 1940s, the play follows the lives and loves of people recovering from the chaos of war. The Night Watch is a tender, tragic and beautifully poignant portrait of four ordinary people caught up in the aftermath of an extraordinary time.

Sarah Water has sold over 2 million novels in England and 4 million worldwide, of which half a million were The Night Watch. Olivier-nominated playwright Hattie Naylor creates a gripping and theatrically inventive adaptation of the great modern novel.

The tour will star Mara Allen, Louise Coulthard, Malcom James, Lewis Mackinnon, Phoebe Pryce, Florence Roberts, Sam Jenkins-Shaw and Izabella Urbanowicz.

The Nigh Watch is directed by Alastair Whatley and designed by David Woodhead, with lighting by Nic Farman, sound by Dominic Bilkey, casting by Ellie Collyer-Bristow CDG, music by Sophie Cotton and movement direction from Lucy Cullingford.

Recent productions by the Original Theatre Company include national tours of Napoli, Brooklyn, Caroline’s Kitchen, The Habit of Art, Monogamy, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wait Until Dark, Invincible, Emlyn Williams’s Night Must Fall, Terence Rattigan’s Flare Path (2015 & 2016) and the award-winning (2013, 2014 & 2015) tours of Sebastian Faulks’s Birdsong adapted by Rachel Wagstaff.
