Try gardening to make friends and get handy hints on sowing, growing, pruning and all things horticultural.

Alzheimer’s Support runs a friendly and welcoming Gardening Café for those living with dementia and their carers on the second Wednesday of each month at Heale House, Middle Woodford. The café is led by councillor and green-fingered guru Marti Hilliard.

Each session features a fascinating talk or presentation, and the next one, on July 10, is about the National Garden Scheme.

“The cafe is a great way for like-minded people to come together and talk about their gardening experiences and is lovely for carers, too,” says Kate Western of Alzheimer’s Support, who organises the group.

“Heale House’s café has a vintage feel and Gardening Café members can buy tea, coffee and cake at a reduced rate, and walk around the beautiful garden, which features a Japanese pagoda and bridge, or browse in the garden centre.”

Heale House Gardens is at Beech Walk, Middle Woodford, SP4 6NT.
