Salisbury Museum is digging into its own past on May 6, Bank Holiday Monday.

Dr Phil Harding and Lorraine Mepham of Wessex Archaeology, are planning a live dig at the museum. Phil and Lorraine, better known as key members of television’s ‘Time Team,’ have been adding to the knowledge of the museum building since 2016 by digging ‘test pits’ as part of the annual Festival of Archaeology.

Now, the public can experience archaeology in action, and Phil and Lorraine will chat with visitors as the dig progresses.

For 2019, the team will look deeper into the history of what was once a separate outbuilding, with more than hundreds of years absorbed into the main structure that now houses the museum and café.

A team from Wessex Archaeology will film the action and all is revealed at this year’s Festival of Archaeology at a talk given by Lorraine and museum director, Adrian Green.

The Festival of Archaeology is on the weekend of July 13 and 14, and tickets for the report on Phil’s Dig and all the other talks, go on sale shortly.
