Chalke Valley HUB has appointed Tony Patel as its new full time manager. Tony takes up his new role on Tuesday, May 7.
The HUB is in the United Reformed Church, a fine building in the centre of the village of Broad Chalke, and opened in June 2013. It serves villages in the Chalke Valley and beyond and through its shop, Post Office and coffee shop has become a popular community facility, plus a-stopping-off point for walkers and cyclists and other visitors exploring the area.
Tony Patel said: “I am confident my many years of retail experience in running shops of a similar size will prove useful as the HUB continues to widen its appeal and to fulfil its original mission. I am greatly looking forward to getting to know everyone involved particularly the staff and the HUB’s many loyal volunteers and customers”.
Will Hillary, the Chalke Valley HUB’s chairman comments: “In the end Tony was the standout candidate mainly because he has a rare combination of more than 30 years of successful hands-on retail experience in developing and running small village shops – some of which have won awards.”
Will added: “In welcoming Tony Patel to the HUB we say goodbye to Ellen Smets who has been the HUB’s manager since we opened six years ago. It is no exaggeration to say that the HUB would not be where it is today without Ellen’s dedication, charm and enthusiasm. She is much loved by the local community who will miss her greatly.”
