Shaftesbury FC have signed striker Greg Peel from Larkhall Athletic who found the net on his debut on Tuesday night, when Shaftesbury put recent poor form behind them with an impressive 3-1 win at high flying Hamworthy United.
Greg, 24 started his career at Carlisle United, completing his youth football apprenticeship, after being with Fleetwood Town. He signed for Irish club Waterford FC, before returning to England and playing at Plain Ham with Evo-Stik South side Larkhall Athletic.
The Rockies new signing said: “I was set to sign for Bideford, but due to work commitments and having a baby girl, I wanted to be close to home.”
“I have a great relationship with Steve, the chairman, and I like the way the team try and play attacking football.
“I’m hoping to help the club to achieve the highest finish possible and give the back end of the season a real go.”
Chairman Steve Coffen added: “We have been crying out for a striker of Greg’s calibre all season. I feel that’s what was the difference between ourselves and the top teams. This was proven with Tuesday’s massive win against a strong Hamworthy side.”
“When a striker of Greg’s ability comes along, we just had to do all we could to get him to commit full time.
“Tuesday Greg met the lads and scored, he’s bought into our philosophy and what we’re trying to achieve, after one game. He’s fitted straight in with the lads, like he’s been here for years.”
