Orchard Park opened its doors to a very special guest – one of Europe’s top floral artists Joe Massie.
Joe is just 26 and already has a number of prestigious awards and accolades under his belt, including winning five gold medals and four ‘Best in Show’ awards at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. He helped to decorate the White House one Christmas, met both the First Lady and the First Dog!, has demonstrated in hundreds of different countries, and was even surprised with a ‘selfie’ booth set up especially for him in Japan so his fans could grab a chance to get a picture taken with him!
Understandably, the team at Orchard Park was all very excited that Joe had agreed to visit. He arrived the day before his demonstrations: that morning, they were all feeling very excited and nervous … it’s not often an international star visits rural North Dorset!
Joe used his arrival day to spend some time with the Orchard Florist team to decide what he’d like to use from around the store to make his arrangements even more special. This provided a really personal experience, as ticket-holders could buy items from the store to take home and recreate the masterpieces he had made.
He immediately fitted in with the team and the members were more than happy to make him part of the Orchard Park family. Florists Laura and Nikki found it incredibly inspiring to work alongside him, and he has even given them the confidence to make an entry into an RHS Chelsea competition next year.
On the morning of the event, as the lucky ticket-holders piled in, Joe confided that he still got nervous before demonstrating! He was a true professional and breezed through his introduction, entertaining guests and staff with his witty anecdotes.
Each session included the demonstration of six arrangements, some of which were traditional and some more modern. Joe mostly worked with fresh flowers, although he did create some displays with silk flowers to demonstrate their versatility and fantastic quality.
This won over even some of the more dubious guests, all amazed at how artificial flowers have improved over the years.
Everyone involved had an absolutely fantastic day, and the Orchard Park team are looking forward to holding more similar events regularly. Sign up to be a member in store or online at www.orchardpark.biz to make sure you hear about it first!
