Launched today, October 12, the Public Health England and the NHS’s joint Stay Well This Winter campaign is aimed at vulnerable people in South West to prepare them for winter and avoid having to visit hospital due to common winter illnesses.
People are urged to get their free flu vaccination, ahead of the winter period when the virus is most common.
This year’s campaign aims to continue to increase uptake of the flu vaccination. Vaccination figures for the South West showing last years flu vaccine uptake in the eligible groups:
- 44% of children aged 2-4 years
- 48% of people in at-risk groups,
- 45% of pregnant women
- 71% of people aged 65 or older
The flu vaccination is offered to those at increased risk from the effects of flu. These include children aged 2-8, people aged 65 and over, pregnant women and those with long term health conditions.
