Sports facilities in the south of Wiltshire are to be opened up as part of a special initiative between Wiltshire Council and the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Wiltshire clubs and voluntary organisations can sign up to use the facilities in Bulford, Tidworth, Perham Down and Larkhill, ranging from pools and pitches to stadiums and other indoor and outdoor facilities in Tidworth, Bulford and Larkhill.
Sharing military sports and leisure facilities with the community is a key part of the agreement on the Army Basing Programme (ABP) which brings 4,000 Service personnel and their families to Wiltshire in 2019.
The council and the MOD and partner organisations want to ensure the infrastructure and facilities can accommodate the new residents and help them settle into the local communities.
The Sports and Community Access Scheme (SCAS) is an important initiative within the programme demonstrating the close working of the MOD, according to Wiltshire Council, which negotiated planning permission for MOD’s developments under the ABP.
Approved clubs and community or voluntary organisations can use the facilities with charges similar to local authority facilities. More details: https://aspiredefence.co.uk/adsl/services/sport-and-leisure/).
