Serious incidents cause concern

After a Freedom of Information request, medical negligence solicitors Blackwater Law found more than 40,000 Serious Incidents were recorded by NHS trusts in England and Wales and Welsh health boards.

Serious Incidents (SIs) are adverse events where consequences are so significant or where potential for learning is so great that a heightened level of response is justified. There is no definitive list of what constitutes a Serious Incident, as many different circumstances may arise from an SI.

The data obtained by Blackwater Law shows that 40,668 Serious Incidents were recorded across 228 NHS trusts in England and Wales and seven Welsh health boards during AprilĀ  1, 2015, and 31st March 31, 2017, with 20,433 reported between April, 2016, andĀ  March 31, 2017.
