Plan to plant 10,000 trees

The centenary of the end of the First World War is to be commemorated by planting 10,000 trees in Wiltshire to create a lasting legacy for those who served or died during the war.

Wiltshire Council wants to find locations for planting and creating appropriate memorials.

Local groups and schools will be asked to assist with planting and the Woodland Trust is providing free trees, advice, expertise and assistance.

The trees will be planted next November.

Communities have shown overwhelming support for the project. Young people will be encouraged to get involved as they did with the Wall of Remembrance in 2014. The wall is still being exhibited across the county and will be preserved in the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
