Staff from Salisbury-based packaging company Test Valley Limited (TVL) took part in a charity boat race on September 22 to raise funds for Salisbury District Hospital’s ‘Stars Appeal’.
The aim of the race was for three teams to build a boat with a tight budget of £100 within a two-hour time limit. Each team was given a boat from last year’s race to work on. The race was 0.6 miles from Watt Road and ended on Smeaton road all on Churchfields Industrial Estate.
TVL’s head of marketing, Michael Steedman, said: “With the River Nadder so close to the company headquarters on Churchfields Industrial Estate, a race with boats made from packaging materials was always going to be fantastic fun.”
Warm weather helped make the day a big success, and £620 was raised, with the figure expected to rise in the coming weeks.
TVL graphic design worker Ian Holland has made a video of the day’s events which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/imxDwtVIxGc.
“The Stars Appeal is a very worthy charity and I hope this video will help raise further funds,” said Ian.
The timing of the event came at an exciting point for TVL, who have just hired five new staff, which allowed increased participation.
“The boat race has been a perfect way to integrate our new member into the Test Valley way. We have always encouraged a working environment which is fun and allows us to work closely to achieve our goals and engage with our customers. We also hope to help raise money for this wonderful local charity,” said TVL managing director Jerry Steedman.
