A single storey building used as a café and shop was well alight, but the nearby petrol station was unaffected when Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire alongside the A303 in Chicklade. The road was closed while fire and rescue carried out operations.
Crews were called to the rural scene at 3.43pm yesterday, July 10, and found the roof of the café-shop ablaze.
More than 40 firefighters were tackling the blaze, from Tisbury, Warminster, Gillingham, Mere, Sherborne, Westbury, Amesbury and Wincanton, supported by a water carrier from Wilton. Additional resources were called in from Andover, Yeovil, Salisbury and Hamworthy.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire will be investigated, once it is safe to do so.
