City’s eyes are switched on

Some cameras have been switched on as work on a state-of-the-art CCTV system in Salisbury gets underway.

The system is funded by Wiltshire Council and part of the assets transferred to Salisbury City Council in April.

Operated by Citywatch paid staff and volunteers from the offices at Bourne Hill, installers Citywatch are co-operating with Wiltshire Police to allow access to footage, where appropriate.

Work has also begun on Amesbury and Wilton’s systems, also run by the town councils.

Mike Withers, chair of Citywatch said: “The Salisbury Partnership established by Salisbury BID and the city council is operating as Citywatch.”

The council has worked with Wiltshire Police, Salisbury City Council, Salisbury BID, Citywatch, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Wilton Town Council and Amesbury Town Council on the project.

Work will be completed later this year.
