Among excellent competition, The Benett Arms, Semley was chosen as Pub of The Year from around 90 pubs in the branch area.
The pub now goes into the Wessex Regional Championship covering East Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, South Wiltshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands). The final goal is against the other 15 regional pubs for the title of Camra National Pub of The Year 2018.
The branch chose The Benett Arms before, but the support for real ale, quality and service has continued. It is a community asset to Semley and surrounding hamlets and it always has a choice of competitively-priced real ales. Food is available most sessions using locally-sourced ingredients, including seasonal game.
The comfortable accommodation is useful for exploring the countryside and nearby attractions, Gold Hill, Shaftesbury and Wardour castle.
Camra were keen on the community involvement, its seasonal events and its part in village life. The Benett Arms is a traditional and authentic 18th century country pub and stands alongside one of the largest village greens in Wiltshire.
Although slightly remote it is very close to nearby tourist attractions.
