The annual Christmas lights switch-on returned to Salisbury Market Place, following last years’ success.
Coronation Street star Antony Cotton was special guest at this years’ festive antics and said he was thrilled to have the honour of switching on the city’s lights. He was joined on stage by Father Christmas and Salisbury Mayor Cllr John Lindley as they brought the Christmas spirit to the city, followed by a sparkling firework display above the Guildhall.
“Salisbury is a beautiful historic city and should be cherished, I’m always glad to be here,” Antony told Valley News.
Antony is taking on a new challenge and learning new skills, starring in the popular series of Dancing On Ice, and he spends most of his time working on his routine.
“I’m currently working on the show and Coronation Street, as normal, and I’ve just started training. Ice skating is very technical and my feet are cut to ribbons.”
Antony is involved in multiple charities, including Help for Heroes based at Tedworth House, Tidworth. He has a passion for helping charities and was inspired by close friends serving in the Military.
He said: “My time is well- spent working for Help for Heroes and visiting recovery centres; some of my friends serve and it’s my way of giving back.”
The city’s Christmas Lights Switch-on bonanza is a popular event and kick-starts late night shopping and the countdown to the festive season.
