Student off to a flying start with UK’s biggest airline

Travel and Tourism student Cieran Smith is the first to get a job straight from college with the UK’s largest airline.

Chatty Cieran, 19, was lost for words when he was told he was one of only three from more than 70 hopefuls applying cabin crew jobs with British Airways.

He is moving nearer Heathrow’s Terminal 5 to a crew house and starts an intensive five-week training course before taking to the skies on both long and short haul flights.

Cieran, at Wiltshire College’s Salisbury campus, said: “I am still in shock and can’t quite believe I was successful. I can’t wait to get started!”

After applying for the role, the Level 3 student attended an assessment day for role-play exercises, safety equipment procedures and a group task planning a new route.

Travel and Tourism lecturer Rebecca Crummack said: “He is the first student to have been offered a job with BA straight from college and he will gain a lot of experience from it – it is a wonderful opportunity for him!”
