Salisbury Playhouse announces 2018 pantomine

Salisbury Playhouse announces 2018 pantomine

As this year’s record-breaking pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk comes to an end, Salisbury Playhouse is delighted to announce that its pantomime for Christmas 2018/19 will be a spectacular new production of Beauty and the Beast, with an extended run to accommodate demand.

The production will combine the storyline of the well-known Beauty and the Beast fairy tale with all the traditional elements of a pantomime. It will be written by Andrew Pollard and directed by Ryan McBryde – the team behind recent hit Salisbury Playhouse pantomimes Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin and Cinderella.

The famous fairy tale, which was turned into a live action film starring Emma Watson last year, tells the story of Beauty who is taken prisoner by a Prince who has been turned into a Beast. Beauty grows to love the Beast, thus lifting a curse and turning him back into a Prince.

A trip to the Playhouse pantomime has become an important part of Christmas celebrations for families, schools and groups, with many performances selling out. To accommodate demand, Beauty and the Beast will run for an extra week, from 1 December 2018 until 13 January 2019.

It follows a record-breaking run of Jack and the Beanstalk at Salisbury Playhouse this winter which was enjoyed by more than 23,000 people.
