Police bill tops £10 million

The costs of the two Novichok incidents in Salisbury and Amesbury are expected to reach more than £10 million and Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, Angus Macpherson expects the Government to meet the bill.

Wiltshire Police had support from police forces across the country after two major incidents in the space of four months.

More than £7 million was paid to the extra police officers who came from 40 other forces, and more than £1.3 million spent on overtime for Wiltshire Police officers and staff.

A number of police vehicles had to be destroyed, as a precaution at an estimated cost of £347,000.
