DORSET County Council should immediately remove signs directing heavy goods vehicles south from Shaftesbury on the C13 through Melbury Abbas now that two incidents of on-call ambulances were jammed with HGVs for around 30 minutes.
Melbury Abbas and Cann Parish Council chairman William Kenealy wrote to county council leader Rebecca Knox to stress the fears of local residents after hundreds of traffic jams, two deaths at Boundary Road, and many near- misses on the narrow road through the village.
“Recent events in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea have brought to light the consequences of authorities ignoring repeated safety warnings by residents who are closest to the problem,” said Cllr Kenealy.
“Local residents are living in genuine daily fear of a disastrous accident. With all the clear evidence of the hazards created daily by promoting this road as a lorry route, we want all signs directing lorries to the C13 be removed as soon as possible.”
