It’s time to dig out running shoes and shorts and start preparing for October’s Chalke Valley Challenge, according to the organisers. The race and fun run returns after a year off and are again supporting the village primary school. The family-friendly event is on Sunday, October 14, and starts and finishes at Broad Chalke Primary School.
In previous years, the lanes around Broad Chalke have echoed to the sound of more than 400 runners taking part in the 10k race and 3k fun run. The event is organised by parents and Friends of Broad Chalke School (FOBS), who are hoping to build on past success, as all profits go to the school towards purchasing school equipment.
Headteacher Amanda Brockway said: ‘’This is our major fundraising event and we are very grateful to our sponsors, whose financial support and practical back-up makes a tremendous difference to the success of the event. We usually have upwards of 100 very enthusiastic children participating – some extremely competitively – and plenty of their friends and families, too.
“There’s always a great turn out from the local community – many simply seeking some gentle exercise; others wanting to take on the challenge of the 10k course and test themselves against competitive club runners.
“The event raises money to provide the pupils with equipment and funds to take part in activities normally beyond the school’s budget.’’
The race is run over a measured course on quiet country roads which undulate through the magnificent Chalke Valley. The event, part sponsored by Valley News, is fully marshalled by Discover Adventure, a pace car will be supplied by Westover Cars, and water stops by Salisbury estate agent Myddelton and Major.
“Make sure you arrive early and don’t miss the warm-up from Salisbury-based Fit Steps by Gemm,” one of the organisers urged.
