Best-known baker bids farewell

Wilton’s best-known baker and Rotarian Ray Reeve was honoured by Wilton Rotary Club after announcing that he was reducing his activities due to age and health.

Ray,  Wilton Rotary Club member for many years, was previously honoured with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his work in Rotary. He was the special guest at a club dinner on October 1 at the White Hart Hotel, Salisbury, when he became the first member to receive a P.H.F.

Club president Carole Slater welcomed members, wives of Rotarians and Friends of Wilton Rotary Club to what she called “a very special meeting.”

Past District Governor Arthur Bowden spoke of Ray’s many years of service to the club, his fellowship with members and his generosity in providing refreshments to helpers at Rotary fund-raising events. Rotarian Phil Matthews emphasised Ray ‘s wider role in the Wilton community.

Members and guests demonstrated their overwhelming approval when President Carole  asked David Huckfield, of the Wilton Rotary Club treasurer, to present Ray Reeve with a framed certificate stating: “Certificate of Honorary Membership. May it be known that Ray Reeve P.H.F. is hereby proclaimed an Honorary Member of The Rotary Club of Wilton and is thus accorded  the Fellowship and Privileges of such Membership. Dated this 17th day of September 2018”.

Ray is the first former member of the Rotary Club of Wilton to be granted this honour.
