If you are an artist, or want to know what is going on in the local art world, join Plain Arts.
As the leading local art organisation, based in Salisbury, Plain Arts covers a 20 miles area and encourages artists and art lovers to join them.
David Walker, Plain Arts Co-ordinator (pictured above), and Vicky Slater, one of seven artists who make up the voluntary committee, have run Plain Arts for many years.
“We have 200 members,” David said. “They vary from professional artists to those who simply produce images for the sheer joy of making art – a wide variety: felt workers, photographers, sculptors to painters,” he said.
“We organise exhibitions to provide artists with the opportunity to show their work and to try raising the profile of local art. Last year, we showed works of art in the Cathedral, Arundells and Five Rivers. We have rotating displays at Salisbury Medical Practice.
“In addition, of course, we are perhaps best known for organising the popular Salisbury Art Trail and the wonderful Paint Off event at the Cathedral.”
Vicky Slater is keen to encourage more members. “A two-year membership will cost just £50, which is tremendous value for money. Every month, members receive a newsletter with updates on individual artists and forthcoming events,” she said.
“On the Plain Arts’ website, each member has a dedicated web page. If you’re not an artist but love the arts, becoming a member is a good way of keeping in touch with the local art world. Perhaps you are interested in doing an art class? Plain Arts newsletters list groups and classes you can join.”
