The King John Inn is in the small village of Tollard Royal on the border of Wiltshire and Dorset and home to the UK’s top premier shoot locations, including renowned Ashcombe and Rushmore estates.
The village inn received top-level excellence with the title ‘Hotel Of The Year’ from The Good Shoot Hotel Guide Awards and voted on by members of the Guns And Pegs shooting community, the largest in the UK. Owner and landlord Paolo Corgiolu and general supervisor Claire Hurley were thrilled to be voted No.1.

The award was presented to Paolo and staff for “recognition of exceptional ability to anticipate and surpass shooting guests’ requirements,” according to the judges.
“Our award is proudly displayed on the mantelpiece. We have built a very good relationship with our guests and they trust us with their stay. We have increased bookings every year through recommendations and word of mouth, which is great,” Paolo said.
The inn is well-known among shooting gatherings as well as being a highly-rated village pub offering an extensive menu of fine British classics. Head chef Neil Duffet prides himself on producing high quality food from locally sourced produce, using game meat from the estate and the finest British seafood.
The country Inn boasts eight modern and elegantly- styled guest rooms, each with en suite bathrooms. During the shooting season, from September 1 to February 1, the King John has a relaxed retreat for shooting parties with top facilities, including fully-insured gun cabinets, private lounge with open fire, comfortable leather seating and an award-winning wine list, and dogs are welcome free of charge.
